IT'S not unheard of for a studio to bring in a script doctor when a film needs some work but a rewrite on a finished product attracts a lot more attention, especially when it's Damon Lindelof getting the nod.
Such is the case with the adaptation of Max Brooks' post-apocalyptic zombie novel World War Z. It seems even the undead can require a bit more life to be put into them.
The picture - starring and produced by Brad Pitt - has already finished principal photography based on a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom) and under the direction of Marc Foster (Quantum of Solace). Some of it was shot in Scotland, as we reported last September.
But now, enter Lost and Prometheus writer Lindelof (above). Expected to focus primarily on the feature's third act, according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, the adjustments could possibly add six to seven weeks of reshoots slated for later this year.
Depending on the extent of the changes, WWZ's already-shifted release date - set for June 21, 2013 - still might not afford Pitt and crew time to put the belabored drama to bed in time.
This news resembles another of Paramount's recent reschedules, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was also pushed to next year for a 3D conversion and a bevy of new footage.
But Paramount isn't the only one hitting the reset button, as Warner Bros has also announced some new blood for an old favorite.
Fresh off his rewrite for the WB pic All You Need Is Kill, Joby Harold's next stop could be The Twilight Zone, reports Variety.
Produced by Appian Way and Leonardo DiCaprio, the long-simmering resurrection of the 1960s cult TV series has already seen Jason Rothenberg (TV's Body Politic) and Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) try to nail down a script.
