McConaughey to Star in The Dallas Buyers Club

Matthew McConaughy, who can next be seen in The Lincoln Lawyer , will star in the long-gestating The Dallas Buyers Club . 24 Frames reports that Jean-Marc Vall�e ( The Young Victoria ) will direct the drama. "It's not exactly the movie that studios are throwing money at these days," McConaughey said about the film which is no longer at Universal Pictures. The Dallas Buyers Club is the true story of Ron Woodroof, a tough Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live. Frustrated with the lack of available medical options and unwilling to accept a death sentence, Woodroof found a lifeline using alternative drugs and created a lucrative smuggling business that made those drugs available to AIDS patients. He died in 1992.

Sam Worthington action-thriller Fink! gets UK DVD release

METRODOME has announced that the action-thriller Fink!, starring Sam Worthington, is coming out on DVD in the UK this coming Monday, March 14.

Fink! was released on the big screen in the actor's native Australia in 2005. The official synopsis is below and a still showing Worthington's character Able is above.

Worthington has since become well-known for his roles in Terminator Salvation, Avatar and Clash of the Titans, with the last of those getting a sequel, Wrath of the Titans, which is set to come out in March 2012.

Stallone Not Writing or Directing The Expendables 2

24 Frames has learned that, while The Expendables 2 is moving forward, Sylvester Stallone won't be writing or directing this time. Stallone co-wrote, directed and starred in the first film, which earned $274.5 million in theaters worldwide last year.The site says that the sequel is a priority at producer Millennium Films and that Stallone is meeting with possible directors to take on the project. They also add that the script has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman ( Curious George , Space Cowboys ).Except for Stallone returning in the role of Barney Ross, there has been no confirmations on who else may be reprising their roles or who may be added.

Terry Gilliam on his role as director of Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust

FROM cartoons to animation to films and now opera. Terry Gilliam is to direct a new production of Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust.

A former member of the Monty Python comedy group, Gilliam is best known as the director of such cult films as Time Bandits, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and, most recently, 2009's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

In his latest venture, he will direct The Damnation of Faust for English National Opera (ENO), based at the London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane, London. It opens on May 6.

ENO says the opera is the "perfect vehicle" for Gilliam's rich imagination.

In a new promotional video interview, he shares his thoughts on the upcoming production. The short film is included below, along with a full press release.

ENO stages a new production of Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust directed by actor, screenwriter and film-maker Terry Gilliam. Marvel reportedly hiring writers to adapt The Inhumans

MARVEL'S much-touted, hotly anticipated gathering of heroes on the big screen comes in 2012 when it releases The Avengers, in which Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury join forces to battle a global threat.

But that may not be the end of ensemble epics. Besides the possibility that there will be a series of Avengers movies, it's been suggested that Marvel may also be developing an adaptation of The Inhumans.

The Inhumans are a race of superbeings who were created when aliens called the Kree visited prehistoric Earth and carried out genetic experiments on primitive Homo sapiens.

Although Marvel hasn't announced that it's working on a film version of The Inhumans, the idea makes sense because the villains in The Avengers are rumoured to be the Skrulls, the other big set of extraterrestrial baddies in the comic books. Notably, a Kree-Skrull War featured in The Avengers comics, and the Inhumans did become embroiled in that conflict.

The report of The Inhumans being turned into a movie comes from Badass Digest which describes the concept as "Rome meets Star Wars meets the X-Men."

But it says the core concept could be changed for the big screen, with the film set to reimagine them as "aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don't want to cause war."

The project is out to writers, it says, with no release date set.

Monopoly Movie Still a Go

There hasn't been much of an update on Ridley Scott's proposed adaptation of the popular board game Monopoly since ComingSoon.net spoke to Scott last year . With Scott currently involved in making Prometheus , it was suspected that the family-friendly film may have fallen by the wayside.Not so, says an update today from MTV News today wherein Hasbro ECO Brian Goldner indicates that Scott still has every intent on getting Monopoly past Go. Charlie Sheen Fired From Two and a Half Men

Warner Bros. TV just released the following statement saying that Charlie Sheen has been fired from the CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men": "After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen's services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately." This follows numerous interviews the last two weeks in which Sheen went after the show's creator Chuck Lorre. A week-and-a-half ago, CBS and Warner Bros. Sony Pictures has purchased the pitch for the "origin story" Peter Pan Begins , says an article at The Hollywood Reporter .A few more details have emerged since last week's announcement of the project, which would see Channing Tatum take a leading role in a prequel to the classic J.M. Barrie tale. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Starts Filming in Toronto

Gale Anne Hurd Takes Nameless

Prolific producer Gale Anne Hurd ( The Terminator , The Incredible Hulk ) is looking to develop a spec script from writer Chris Billett, says The Hollywood Reporter .The storyline, described as a modern day Western, is said to involve a secret Witness Protection Program facility that comes under attack by assassins and which must be defended by the citizens of the local town.The aim for the project is, at the moment, to go after independent funding through Hurd's Valhalla Pictures, though the producer doesn't entirely rule out studio involvement.Billett is responsible for the screenplays to the indie films Unrest , Callous and, most recently, Isolation . Three images and UK trailer for Russell Brand remake of Arthur

DUDLEY MOORE, Liza Minnelli and the late Sir John Gielgud proved a magical combination in Steve Gordon's 1981 classic Arthur, which has been revamped in an upcoming Hollywood remake released next month.

Russell Brand follows in Moore's footsteps as the drunken playboy, Greta Gerwig is the love interest previously played by Minnelli and, in a gender-swapping update, Helen Mirren takes on Gielgud's role as the valet.

Also in the cast of director Jason Winer's new film are Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte, Luis Guzman, Geraldine James and Jennie Eisenhower.

Superhero fans will notice that the Batmobile features in the trailer, with Brand's character dressing as Batman and his chauffeur Bitterman (Guzman) as Robin.

Hard-drinking partying billionaire Arthur (Brand) is set to marry Susan Johnson (Garner) a rich woman he doesn't love, and continue his irresponsible and childish ways, but his life is changed when he falls for gorgeous tour guide and aspiring children's book author Naomi Quinn (Gerwig).

Arthur hits UK cinemas on April 22 and the first trailer is included below. Also featured here are three stills from the production.
