The Virgen del Carmen committee, in the Kilometer 8 Monday neighborhood of Ciudad del Este, was organized by Sra. Mirian Avalos. The committee has 15 members, all active, entrepeneurial women. The loan will be used to buy clothing, beverages, canned meats, beef and pork, chicken, cooking oil, rice, pasta, dairy products, cosmetics, costume jewelry, silver jewelry, condiments, fruits and vegetables, products that the women will resell. Sra. Petrona Fernandez owns a small shop where she sells the products that are basic fare for local families. The entire family helps to run the shop and revenues from the business pay most of their everyday expenses. This loan improves the chances that each of these women will have a regular income and be able to work for themselves.
