Joy Santos is an example of a strong woman who can thrive and make a living without a man. A 31-year-old mother of two kids, she lives in the town of Angono, Rizal Province, in the Philippines. Joy�"s main goal is to build a sustainable business to meet the needs of her children; she was thus encouraged to join ASHI (Ahon sa Hirap, Inc.), a MFI and KIVA partner in the Philippines, in 2001. The previous loans she received from Kiva were carefully invested in her restaurant. Since then, the restaurant has been performing well and earning sufficient profit. She is grateful that she has been able to educate her children using proceeds from her business as she continues to expand. Joy needs a loan to help boost her business for increased profit.Now requesting her sixth loan, she is requesting 40,000 pesos as additional capital for her restaurant, to be used to pay for cases of beer, liquor, pork, chicken, groceries for her enterprise and an additional videoke karaoke machine.Joy is optimistic that she can achieve her dreams of providing a good life for her children and being able to send them to school until they finish college.
