THE only confirmed member of cast in the next Superman movie is British actor Henry Cavill in the title role but a number of rumours have resurfaced regarding other possible characters.
Three blonde actresses - Rosamund Pike, Diane Kruger and Alice Eve - were reportedly up for General Zod's companion Ursa, even though director Zack Snyder previously said Zod was not in the story and Kruger has repeatedly denied being approached. And then Kevin Costner was linked to a role, widely suspected to be Jonathan Kent.
The latest whisper comes from HeatVision, which is reporting that Viggo Mortensen is a "person of interest" to play Zod, previously portrayed on the big screen by Terence Stamp. No discussions have yet started with the star of Lord of the Rings and The Road, it says.
In addition, Moviehole is hearing Daniel Day-Lewis is being considered for what's assumed to be the same character; elsewhere, Gerard Butler has also been mentioned.
Considering Snyder's dismissal of Zod being in the script, it's all rather curious. And surely it's time for new villains from Superman's vast comic book rogues' gallery, rather than rehashing one already seen on the big screen and in Smallville?
