REALITY TV shows dominate our screens on both sides of the Atlantic - but what if the contestants were also superheroes?
It's an idea that crossed the creative minds of presenter Jonathan Ross - a comic book fanatic - and artist Bryan Hitch, who has just left Marvel Comics after working there for a decade.
Ross confirmed he is teaming up with Hitch on a title called America's Got Powers, in which superpowered teenagers compete on a reality TV show for a place in the only superhero team.
Ross wrote on Twitter: "New year and a new beginning! Am beyond excited to announce that Bryan Hitch and I are publishing new comic with Image this spring: America's Got Powers.
"Full-on superhero angst and action as Americas most gifted superpowered teen wannabes slug it out on TV for a place in the world's only official super-team."
Ross recently collaborated with artist Tommy Lee Edwards on the Image comic Turf, a five-issue tale of vampires and aliens in 1920s Prohibition-era New york. It was collected into a hardback edition by Titan and was also serialised in Mark Millar's CLiNT magazine.
The screen rights were snapped up by Benderspink, with director Matthew Vaughn at one time said to be interested, although the last update said he was no longer involved.
Ross and Edwards are also working on a comic called Golden Age about the forced retirement of superheroes into a home for the elderly in South Miami Beach, with Vaughn also interested in a film adaptation.
Matthew said his wish-list was to get stars such as Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty to play the aged heroes. He added that he may hand over directing and scripting duties to other filmmakers but stay on board as a producer.
