Comic Book Bites: Allan Heinberg scripts Wonder Woman origin series Amazon; Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray extended cut rumoured

allan-heinberg-wonder-woman-comic.jpgTHE CW is becoming the go-to network for DC superheroes, with 10 seasons of Smallville under its belt and the Arrow series premiering on October 10.

To those Superman and Green Arrow adaptations you can now add fellow DC hero Wonder Woman. And as with the other two shows, an origin story is the chosen way forward.

According to New York Magazine's Vulture blog, a new take on the character with the working title Amazon is being scripted by Allan Heinberg, portraying Wonder Woman "as a young, budding superhero rather than a fully-formed defender of liberty." It's suggested there might not yet be any costume with the classic golden tiara and bulletproof bracelets.

Heinberg has worked as a writer and producer on Sex and the City, The O.C. and Grey's Anatomy and, reassuringly, was lead writer for the Wonder Woman comic in 2006-2007 when he relaunched the character after the dramatic events of the Infinite Crisis limited series. His work can be seen collected in the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Who is Wonder Woman? (see below).

No pilot episode for Amazon has yet been greenlit at this early stage, but the choice of writer and network sound like a good start.

A previous TV adaptation had been attempted by NBC, with Adrianne Palicki in the title role and Liz Hurley as the villain, but was axed after poor reactions to the pilot.

Warner Bros is also trying to get a Wonder Woman film off the ground, with Green Lantern co-writer Michael Goldenberg reported to be working on the screenplay.

Nuke The Fridge claims to have learned from sources that there will be an extended Director's Cut of The Dark Knight Rises on the Blu-ray.

The site says the film will be 30 minutes longer and include more backstory on Tom Hardy's villain Bane.
