Comic Book Bites: Marc Webb may not return for Spider-Man sequel; Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy's Svetlana Khodchenkova set to replace Jessica Biel in The Wolverine

Marc Webb on set of Amazing Spider-Man.jpgSONY'S reboot The Amazing Spider-Man has so far spun a web of $538million worldwide and although the domestic and global figures are below those of the other Spidey flicks, a trilogy has already been confirmed.

But will director Marc Webb return? Earlier this month he said: "People ask about the sequel and I'm like 'Well, you know, I don't know if I want to do that, but I love the process.' I love Andrew and Emma. But it's like asking someone who has just given birth 'Do you want to get pregnant again?'"

Svetlana Khodchenkova.jpgAdding to those doubts is a new interview, in which Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad told The Hollywood Reporter: "We'd really like him back, but there are obstacles. He has an obligation to Fox."

Apparently, Webb is contracted to provide a further film for the company after 500 Days of Summer.

While it's not yet confirmed that Webb is not coming back for the Spidey sequel, it seems Jessica Biel has already dropped out of a role as the villainous Viper in The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman's second solo X-Men spin-off.

According to Collider, talks broke down and the studio began looking at other actresses. HeatVision's later report added that that Biel "got cold feet" in a similar turn of events to her 2007 departure from the role of Wonder Woman in a Justice League film for Warner Bros.

Twitch Film, which broke the initial story of Biel being cast as Viper, says Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova (pictured) is now set to play the Eastern European agent and assassin. Svetlana is best known for her role as Soviet operative Irina in 2011's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
