First pic from The Lone Ranger shows Johnny Depp with KISS make-up and a dead crow on his head

lone-ranger-johnny-depp-armie-hammer.jpgALREADY known for putting on the guyliner as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Johnny Depp has gone deeper into make-up for his next role as Tonto in Disney's The Lone Ranger.

In a first picture from the production, Depp seems to have kept Captain Jack's hair and bandana and added KISS-style facepaint and a dead crow on top of his head. He's also looking askance in a similar manner to some of his Pirates of the Caribbean images (see below), while the wings of the crow are similar to the shape made by his pirate hat.

Depp is with Armie Hammer, who appeared in The Social Network and J. Edgar and stars in the title role. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski and will open on May 31, 2013.

Production had been delayed while the hefty budget was trimmed - from $260million to $215million - and Disney announced the start of filming at the end of February.

In the story, Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed man of the law John Reid (Hammer) into a legend of justice. Disney promises "a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption."

Depp and Hammer are joined in the cast by Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter.
