'THERE'S a storm coming, Mr Wayne.' Those are the words whispered by Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle in the most recent trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Which makes now the calm before the storm, as the blockbuster's July 20 screen date approaches.
Already treated with 'If I tell you, I'd have to kill you' secrecy, Christopher Nolan's third and final - and by far his most mysterious - chapter in the Batman franchise looms with only speculation to tide the ravenous masses.
Clues are being sought in every sneaky set picture and all of the merchandising - including dolls, Bobble Heads (see below) and Mattel's model of Batman's new airborne vehicle, a jet/copter hybrid which the toymaker calls The Bat (also below).
And there's also been endless scrutiny of the wardrobe images on the interwebs - including Hathaway's Catwoman garb and Tom Hardy's look as Bane in a shearling overcoat and a bizarre mask that resembles some sort of breathing apparatus.
So what does the crew member in charge of the outfits have to say?
"Bane was meant to look like a cross between a dictator and a revolutionary," said the film's Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming in an interview with GQ.com.
"I designed the coat myself - it took a year. We took inspiration from a Swedish army jacket and a French Revolution frock coat and amalgamated the two. It was a pain to have made, because in LA shearling is not their sort of thing: there weren't the tailors who could work with the fabric."
Hemming also teased that there have a some secret alterations to Christian Bale's latest Batsuit, confessing: "The only modifications are to do with the story. But I can't tell you what they are." It's a sentiment consistent with the entire production with little being revealed as the filmmakers strive to maintain the integrity of their creation.
