NICHOLAS HOULT wore blue fur, claws and fangs for his role as Beast in X-Men: First Class but he finds something even more monstrous and deadly in his new film Jack The Giant Killer.
A new poster and synopsis have been sent over for director Bryan Singer's gritty new version of the classic fairy tale and - as you may already have spotted in our video channel on the right - a trailer is also available.
Official synopsis/description
An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them.
Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend... and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
Acclaimed filmmaker Bryan Singer directs the 3D epic action adventure Jack the Giant Killer, starring Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) in the title role.
The film also stars Eleanor Tomlinson as Princess Isabelle; Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First Avenger) as the deceitful Lord Roderick; Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, HBO's Deadwood) as the besieged King Brahmwell; Bill Nighy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as the giants' leader, General Fallon; and Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, The Ghost Writer) as palace guard Elmont.
Singer directs from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Dan Studney, story by Darren Lemke & David Dobkin. Five Lessons To Do What You Love...And Succeed
Entrepreneurs come from all over the world, but most share an innate passion for questioning the constraints of ideology and discipline, and identifying practical solutions to problems by combining ingenuity, resourcefulness, and dogged determination.
You Never Know Where a Good Idea Is Going to Come From.
I'm fascinated by the different types of people I meet in the world and the way their personalities show in what they do. People with passion, energy, ideas, and an unquenchable thirst for life inspire me the most. I’m fueled by their energy, fascinated by their ideas, and inspired by the way they live life to its fullest.
While working with Starbucks, I had the lifelong pleasure of meeting a man with more energy and verve for life than an army of optimists. Richard Tait is filled with passion to constantly push boundaries, explore new frontiers, and voraciously bring new ideas to life. Richard Tait, creator/founder of Cranium, and more recently the sports hydration drink Golazo, is an amazing example of an entrepreneur at heart. I recently spent time kicking a ball around in Seattle with Richard where he shared his entrepreneurial story of chasing the American dream and pursuing what makes him tick.
Start Young and Dream Big.
Richard has been a self-described entrepreneur since he was 4, selling fish door-to-door in his native Scotland. Richard's humor and industrious attitude gave him the perfect entrepreneurial foundation. After coming to the U.S. and studying Business at Dartmouth University, the lights on his American dream began to look a bit dim. He had dreamt of working with Apple, but after being denied several positions on multiple occasions, he settled for working for Microsoft as a Project Manager--this was in 1988, long before the PC or takeover of the Internet. Being at Microsoft for the next 10 years led Tait on an amazing adventure one could never have anticipated. And after an astounding 10-year journey, Tait knew he was ready for his next big thing, h...

Do sweat the small stuff. The combination of an insane attention to details and neurotic focus on customer experience is what sets the great companies apart from the good, Box CEO Aaron Levie reminds us. Organizations that adopt this level of intensity will always have superior offerings, an instant differentiator from the indistinguishable competition.
Embrace gratitude as a business strategy. Almost everyone suffers from Gratitude Deficit Disorder. We want to know that we matter, that our efforts make the world a better place. And so do your customers, vendors, coworkers, employees, friends, and family. So make an action plan to communicate your appreciation in 2012.
Figure out your social media strategy already. Twitter still give you hives? Not sure how to connect with your customers on Facebook? Accept it: Social media is not a fad. Syncapse CEO Michael Scissons answers the most commonly asked questions about developing a social media strategy.
Brand early, not often. Branding, done right, is a rigorous process, and shortcuts almost always end up costing more in the end, says Emily Heyward, owner and partner of Red Antler. An early investment in branding is no different than taking the time and money to set up a proper operating agreement or purchase efficient machinery that won’t break down.
Don't botch your pitches. We all have something to pitch--your startup to VCs, yourself for a new job, or your product to customers. In any situation, one rule applies: The better the pitch, the better the results. Here are five rookie mistakes that will sink even the best ideas.

Unleash your inner primate for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
EXPERTS are urging us to get back in touch with our evolutionary roots and use our bodies as nature intended.
They claim modern society is putting us at higher risk of stress and disease by keeping us indoors and making us too inactive.
Research coinciding with the Blu-ray and DVD release of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (which hit stores on Monday, December 12) found that the average British adult walks only half the amount they did 10 years ago and spends between seven and nine waking hours a day sedentary.
With this behaviour being directly linked to increased risk of disease and high blood pressure, we are being encouraged to embrace our biological ancestors.
And to help us do just that, a dedicated ape playground - based on the primate sanctuary featured in Rise of the Planet of the Apes - was set up in in Potters Fields Park, London, to give the British public the chance to 'go ape.'
Footage and pictures from the event are included here.
"There is an ape inside all of us," says Barry Bogin, Professor of Biological Anthropology of Loughborough University. "We have similar biological bodies as apes but we're not using them in the way we should. We are built to swing, move around and be physically active outdoors like apes, but the modern world works against us. People are stressed by over-busy lives; we may be living longer but are less healthy than in the past. We need to recognise and accept our evolutionary roots."
Many of us are taking fewer than 5,000 steps per day, half of what we were 10 years ago, and walking is being replaced by an increased reliance on door to door motorised transport, for journeys we previously walked or cycled. Combined with the further consequence of reduced contact with natural light, the risk of disease and increased blood pressure are significantly increasing, not to mention rising obesity levels.
Bogin adds: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes demonstrates our strong connection with primate...

At IGN, Employees Use A "Viral Pay" System To Determine Each Others' Bonuses
Ever feel like you know better than the executives who the star performers in your organization are? IGN Entertainment's "viral pay" program puts the power over rewards in employees' hands.
Most companies hand out bonuses at the end of the year, and many of them do so as a form of profit sharing. But IGN Entertainment, a division of News Corp. that creates content and communities for gamers, has developed an innovative system where it's the employees themselves who help decide how much of those profits should go to each worker.
It's called "viral pay," and here's how it works: Twice a year, in January and July, IGN creates a basket of tokens (called "Tokens of Appreciation") based on how much profit there is to share. It distributes the tokens among employees and has them give their tokens--which are worth $1 each--to whatever other employees they want, as recognition for a job well done.
So, for example, if there's someone in ad sales who went above and beyond to help you on particular campaign, you might toss some tokens their way. Of if there's a developer who you think always comes up with great ideas about how to solve particular engineering problems, you might send them a little token love as well. Employees can give all their tokens to the same person, but they usually divide them up among several people.
There are only three rules to the program, Greg Silva, IGN's vice president of "People and Places" (HR and facilities), tells Fast Company: You can't award any tokens to yourself, all tokens have to be given away, and IGN's president (the organization's chief executive) isn't eligible.
"The purpose is to reward super-performers with super-pay," Silva says.
The program was started two years ago because employees wanted a role in helping to identify and reward star performers. "Our employees were saying 'It's great that the managers know who's super-effective and contributing the most, but, quite frankly, we know better, so let us reward and recognize our peers.'"

The Artist dances to front of 2012 Golden Globe Awards nominations
STEVEN SPIELBERG'S epic and already Oscar-tipped War Horse is among the nominations for best drama at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill to leave Doctor Who
DOCTOR WHO stars Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are to leave the hit sci-fi show during the next series, it has been announced tonight.
Karen, who plays Amy Pond, and Arthur, who plays screen husband Rory Williams, will be written out in a "heartbreaking" storyline, show boss Steven Moffat revealed.
A new companion for The Doctor is being lined up, but producers have so far given no clues about their identity.
He added: "That story is going to be a heartbreaking one."
Scottish actress Karen, who will soon be seen in a BBC drama as model Jean Shrimpton, has had a starring role for two series and has become hugely popular.
Moffatt said tonight: "The final days of the Ponds are coming. It's during the next series. I'm not telling you when and I'm not telling you how."
He said The Doctor would be "taking a new friend", adding: "I'm not going to tell you anything about he, she or it."
Matt Smith said he would miss his co-star, who joined the programme at the same time as he did: "We took over the show and we really had to hold hands and help each other through it. It's very disappointing."
But he conceded: "This show is about change and regeneration."
In June last year Gillan hit back at criticism over Amy's sexy demeanour - saying feminism was not the issue any more.
The 24-year-old flame-haired Scot claimed her character's miniskirts are typical of what young women like to wear.
The series came under fire from some viewers for a scene in which Amy tried to seduce the Doctor, but Gillan said they were unlikely to get together romantically as he sees Amy more like an annoying younger sister.
It is understood that the decision for Gillan to leave the show was mutual.
Moffat was speaking at a screening of the Christmas edition of the show which will be broadcast on December 25.
The programme, which is an homage to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, features guest roles for Claire Skinner and Alexander Armstrong.

A CEO’s Guide To Social Media In 2012
Fast Company wants you to have your best year yet in 2012; click for more advice and tips on how to work smarter, manage your career, and lead a more meaningful life.
As I jogged down Wall Street in New York in October through the barricades, police horses, and thousands of activists, something became clear. The masses had self-organized and social media had added yet another social movement to its résumé. At the same time, something else became clear to me. Much higher than street level, in the boardrooms of America’s largest companies, social media expertise was far from entering the résumés of most C-suites.
Why is there confusion inside these glass fortresses around the world? Senior executives are struggling to get a grasp of what to do about the social opportunity for their kingdom. But hey, it’s new, right? The kids only started signing up eight years ago. For lots of people, the biggest concern with technology is figuring out how to operate their BlackBerry in the post-trackwheel era.
But with 2012 and the New Year upon us, countless strategy and planning sessions are likely on the calendar. I’d like to take the liberty of answering the most recurring questions I hear from executives of the world’s leading brands and share my predictions, with the hope that doing so will reduce the need to answer these questions by 25% in 2012.
“Every department is telling me they own social media so it feels like it has 12 owners. How do I think about it?”
Thinking of social media as a separate effort will lead to failure and you’ll lose a year. Social media is simply an overlay that must be applied to existing business functions including marketing, customer care, e-commerce, search, HR, internal systems, legal, etc. CEOs should understand this and ask to see specific plans to achieve business results through collaboration and smart planning. Being “good at social media” shouldn’t be your goal. Weaving social media into the fabric of your company and m...

3 Ways To Put Your Customer First
You must give to receive. It’s the ancient law of karma and the most important lesson of every Christmas movie. And--as I’ve discovered working with my branding and design consultancy’s startup clients--a key factor in launching a successful business. The brand that puts its users first, whose sole purpose is to serve them, will surely win. But it’s one thing to know this, another to put it in action. So this holiday season, I give to you three simple ways to grow your business by practicing generosity.
1. GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED
When we start working with a new company, in the very first meeting I ask the founders what problem their product is solving. Of course everyone has an answer to this question; any solid entrepreneur knows that a real-world problem is a key building block in any pitch, not to mention the justification for why we go to work every day (and night, and weekend).
But often the problem we think we’re solving is actually self-serving. As in, “The problem I’m solving is that my product doesn’t exist,” versus considering what our target user is truly feeling/missing/wanting/needing. The temptation is to imagine that our audience is sitting around wishing there were a product exactly like the one we’re launching. When I worked in advertising, we used to joke about creative briefs that contained a consumer insight along the lines of “I wish there were a cereal that contained crunchy bran flakes and plump raisins, that was healthy and also delicious.”
Or let’s take another example we’re all familiar with, such as Foursquare. Before Foursquare, consumers were not bemoaning to themselves, “I wish I could use my phone to publicly mark all the places that I go,” or “Help! I am missing out on location-based deals that reward me for my loyalty!” Consumers were not wishing for Foursquare, because it didn’t exist yet. The real problem that Foursquare so successfully addressed? So much of who we are is defined by where we go, but our movement through the wor...

The Legend Ends: Poster and prologue for The Dark Knight Rises show terror of Bane
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN and his producer wife Emma Thomas have given us a few more clues about the epic finale to their Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises.
The pair spoke as a dramatic new poster was released, showing Tom Hardy's menacing Bane walking away from a broken Batman mask and proclaiming ominously: The Legend Ends.
Could this be the final, fateful confrontation for the caped crusader? Check out both versions of the new poster below.
The new comments from Nolan and Thomas follow those of Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Gordon. Last week, he told Moviefone of his character: "When we meet him, things are calmer in Gotham. It's reminiscent of the Gordon that we met in the first one. There's a world-weariness to him, and even though things on the surface are now calmer, he's cleaned up Gotham with the Harvey Dent Act, it's seething underneath.
"You've got to have some hell break loose - it's The Dark Knight Rises. I think the story's really good. The story really delivers, it's a terrific conclusion to the trilogy. Nolan rounds it off: he brings in a bit of the first one, from Batman Begins, and he does some really surprising things with it."
He elaborated: "I thought his choice of villain was very interesting, to use Bane instead of Riddler or Penguin. He's not gone with the most obvious choice. The challenge for Chris was always really the story and I think he didn't want to make a third one for the sake of it.
"I think there was pressure on him, obviously, because the second was so successful. So there's always going to be some pressure to keep it going. But he's too smart and classy, really to just make a third just for the sake of making it, because others are demanding or want it from him and I think he felt that, 'Let me get the story right.' So the fans won't be disappointed."
Nolan confirms the part about the Harvey Dent Act in a new interview with IGN, saying: "There is a piece of legislation, and we are dealing with a G...

Watch: International trailer for animated comedy ParaNorman
FOLLOWING its Oscar-nominated children's fantasy film Coraline, released in 2009, the American animation studio LAIKA is bringing us ParaNorman.
The comedy thriller is only the second stop-motion animated feature after Coraline to be made in 3D. A new trailer has been released and is embedded below along with plot, cast and crew details.
When a small town comes under siege by zombies, a misunderstood local boy called Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is able to speak with the dead is the only one who can help.
But his paranormal powers may be pushed to their limits when, in addition to the zombies, he has to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, moronic grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse.
ParaNorman is directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler from a screenplay by Butler. Fell was director of The Tale of Despereaux and Flushed Away while Butler was storyboard supervisor on Coraline and storyboard artist on Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.
Kodi Smit-McPhee was previously seen in The Road and Let Me In. The voice cast also includes Academy Award nominee Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Tucker Albrizzi (Good Luck Charlie), Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show), Alex Borstein (Family Guy), Jodelle Ferland (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Jeff Garlin (Toy Story 3), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Bernard Hill (Titanic), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air), Leslie Mann (Rio), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How to Train Your Dragon), and Tony and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch (30 Rock).
Arianne Sutner, animation producer on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and LAIKA President and CEO Travis Knight are producing ParaNorman. Academy Award winner Brian Van't Hul (King Kong, Coraline) is the movie's visual effects supervisor; Emmy Award winner Nelson Lowry (Fantastic Mr Fox, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride) is its production designer; and Tristan Oliver (Fantastic Mr Fox, the A...
