The statue was destroyed by flooding (in fact, the only one of the Seven Wonders still standing today is the Great Pyramid of Giza), but the Games are still here in a modernised form and Zeus and the other gods are far from forgotten.
And, with the London 2012 Olympics about to get under way, the Greek gods are hoping to preside over our living rooms when Warner Bros sequel Wrath of the Titans comes to 3D Blu-ray and DVD from October 15.
