EIGHTEEN minutes of footage have been added to Zack Snyder's fantasy adventure Sucker Punch for a brand-new director's cut on the upcoming Blu-ray.

Warner Bros has announced that the DVD and Blu-ray editions of the film will hit UK shelves on August 8.

Both formats include four animated features which aim to take viewers deeper into the filmmaker's immersive world.

The film stars Emily Browning as Babydoll, a young woman who retreats into a fantasy realm when she is locked up in an asylum.

She urges four other young girls - reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) - to band together and try to escape a terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac) and Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino), before the mysterious High Roller (Jon Hamm) comes for them.

The girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents on a visually-enthralling journey to find freedom.

Special features on the Blu-ray (along with timings in minutes and seconds) are: Theatrical Cut (109:36), Animated Short: Feudal Warriors (2:38), Animated Short: The Trenches (2:54), Animated Short: Dragon (2:54), Animated Short: Distant Planet (2:49), Behind the Soundtrack; Directors Cut (127:21) and Maximum Movie Mode (in which Snyder offers a picture-in-picture commentary).

Special features on the DVD are: Animated Short: Feudal Warriors (2:38), Animated Short: The Trenches (2:54), Animated Short: Dragon (2:54) and Animated Short: Distant Planet (2:49).

Snyder previously directed 300, Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and in August will start filming the Superman reboot Man of Steel, which is being produced by Christopher Nolan and is due out in December 2012.
