I Don't Know How She Does It - Trailer

Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Munn, and Christina Hendricks star in I Don't Know How She Does It, a comedy from director Douglas McGrath (Emma, Infamous) and producer Donna Gigliotti (The Reader, Let Me In). Based on the critically acclaimed bestseller by Allison Pearson, I Don't Know How She Does It follows a Boston-based working mother trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job. Kate Reddy (Parker) devotes her days to her job with a Boston-based financial management firm. At night she goes home to her adoring, recently-downsized architect husband Richard (Kinnear) and their two young children. It's a non-stop balancing act, the same one that Kate's acerbic best friend and fellow working mother Allison (Christina Hendricks) performs on a daily basis, and that Kate's super-brainy, child-phobic young junior associate Momo (Olivia Munn) fully intends to avoid. When Kate gets handed a major new account that will require frequent trips to New York, Richard also wins the new job he's been hoping for--and both will be spreading themselves even thinner. Complicating matters is Kate's charming new business associate Jack Abelhammer (Brosnan), who begins to prove an unexpected source of temptation.

Higher Ground - Trailer

Vera Farmiga's directorial debut, HIGHER GROUND, is a coming-of-age drama in which Farmiga delivers a subtle, nuanced performance completely from the gut, with equally strong and compelling supporting characters. Set against the backdrop of the Sixties, when feminism reached its zenith, the film expertly depicts the landscape of a tight-knit spiritual community. Inspired by the resonant memoir from Carolyn Briggs (who also wrote the screenplay) the film is an exquisite study of one woman's internal struggle with the primary love relationships in her life. John Hawkes, Donna Murphy, Bill Irwin, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Joshua Leonard round out the cast, along with Farmiga's younger sister Taissa, who proves herself to be an extraordinary new talent as Young Corinne.

From the Oscar-winning team behind MAN ON WIRE comes the story of Nim, the chimpanzee who in the 1970s became the focus of a landmark experiment which aimed to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Following Nim's extraordinary journey through human society, and the enduring impact he makes on the people he meets along the way, the film is an unflinching and unsentimental biography of an animal we tried to make human. What we learn about his true nature - and indeed our own - is comic, revealing and profoundly unsettling.

Comedian Jimmy Carr writes debut comic strip, plus first look at artwork

CLiNT 9 cover.jpg

COMEDIAN Jimmy Carr has written his first comic strip.

The stand-up funnyman, who hosts Channel 4's panel show 8 out of 10 Cats, has penned an exclusive tale of "violent point-scoring and social alienation" for the latest issue of CLiNT.

A first look at the artwork is featured below, while the magazine cover is above.

The story, Beat My Score, is described as "a nihilistic satirical sideswipe at the glamorisation of violence, tackling the difficult and disturbing effects as seen in school shootings around the world. Its manga-styled images by Japanese artist Ryusuke Hamamoto will resonate in the brain like a ricochet long after the final shots have been fired."

The premise of the tale is: When every action is assessed for its potential as a Tweet, and every success is accompanied by Achievement Points, what will one maladjusted Japanese college student do to claim pole position?

CLiNT, which launched last September, has already featured the first look at Kick-Ass 2, Mark Millar's sequel to the comic that inspired Matthew Vaughn's film adaptation.

Jimmy Carr's Beat My Score will feature in CLiNT issue 9, which is on sale from tomorrow, June 30.

TV presenter Jonathan Ross and comedians Frankie Boyle and Stewart Lee have also presented their comic-strip debuts in the Titan Magazines publication.

Turf, by Jonathan Ross and acclaimed artist Tommy Lee Edwards, mixes vampires, aliens and gangsters in a period thriller, while Rex Royd, by Frankie Boyle, introduces The Renaissance Man of Madness in a supervillain strip.

Kick-Ass creator and CLiNT editor Mark Millar said: "We've been incredibly lucky in this first nine months. We just got nominated for a big award before we've even reached our first birthday and the talent line-up has been unmatchable. We've had people as diverse as Victoria Coren, Ian Rankin, Jonathan Ross and Frankie Boyle in here and now we've got Jimmy Carr doing comic books. It's crazy.

"What's nice is that Jim...

Humpback Whale Watching Season on Oahu

humpback whales hawaii
To native Hawaiians, the humpback whale is a representation of the Hawaiian god Kanaloa (god of animals in the ocean).

Humpback whales begin their migration south from Alaska to Hawaii every year in December. The approximate distance they travel during their annual migration is 4,000 miles round-trip, making this journey one of the longest migration distances of any animal species. The whales usually stay through April so this is a prime opportunity to witness these amazing mammals in nature.

They come here every year to give birth to their calves and to mate.

Awwwww......

Magic Trip - Featurette

In 1964, Ken Kesey, the famed author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," set off on a legendary, LSD-fuelled cross-country road trip to the New York World's Fair. He was joined by "The Merry Band of Pranksters," a renegade group of counterculture truth-seekers, including Neal Cassady, the American icon immortalized in Kerouac's "On the Road," and the driver and painter of the psychedelic Magic Bus. Kesey and the Pranksters intended to make a documentary about their trip, shooting footage on 16MM, but the film was never finished and the footage has remained virtually unseen. With MAGIC TRIP, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side) and co-director Alison Ellwood were given unprecedented access to this raw footage by the Kesey family. They worked with the Film Foundation, HISTORY and the UCLA Film Archives to restore over 100 hours of film and audiotape, and have shaped an invaluable document of this extraordinary piece of American history.

Evil Rising on to DVD on July 25

Evil Rising poster.jpg

IF YOU'RE a fan of European films and their raw, visceral and very un-Hollywood approach, you will be interested to hear that the atmospheric chiller Evil Rising will be hitting shelves in the UK later this month.

Matchbox Films has announced a DVD release date of July 25 for the Finnish film, which is also known as Sauna and was directed by Antti-Jussi Annila. The official poster, a still from the film and a trailer are included here.

The synopsis says the films is "set in war-ravaged 16th century Europe where the horrors of battle are nothing compared to the darker fears that lurk in an isolated community."

The director subsequently teamed with Splice writer Doug Taylor for an upcoming project called Human, a twist on the werewolf genre in which a wolf is transformed into a man.

Sucker Punch Blu-ray offers longer Director's Cut

Sucker Punch Blu-ray artwork.jpg

EIGHTEEN minutes of footage have been added to Zack Snyder's fantasy adventure Sucker Punch for a brand-new director's cut on the upcoming Blu-ray.

Warner Bros has announced that the DVD and Blu-ray editions of the film will hit UK shelves on August 8.

Both formats include four animated features which aim to take viewers deeper into the filmmaker's immersive world.

The film stars Emily Browning as Babydoll, a young woman who retreats into a fantasy realm when she is locked up in an asylum.

She urges four other young girls - reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) - to band together and try to escape a terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac) and Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino), before the mysterious High Roller (Jon Hamm) comes for them.

The girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents on a visually-enthralling journey to find freedom.

Special features on the Blu-ray (along with timings in minutes and seconds) are: Theatrical Cut (109:36), Animated Short: Feudal Warriors (2:38), Animated Short: The Trenches (2:54), Animated Short: Dragon (2:54), Animated Short: Distant Planet (2:49), Behind the Soundtrack; Directors Cut (127:21) and Maximum Movie Mode (in which Snyder offers a picture-in-picture commentary).

Special features on the DVD are: Animated Short: Feudal Warriors (2:38), Animated Short: The Trenches (2:54), Animated Short: Dragon (2:54) and Animated Short: Distant Planet (2:49).

Snyder previously directed 300, Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and in August will start filming the Superman reboot Man of Steel, which is being produced by Christopher Nolan and is due out in December 2012.
