Comic Book Bites: Dwayne Johnson for Lobo; Enchantress in Thor 2; Ant-Man imminent; Ms Marvel may take flight
Aside from Nolan's Batman saga, Green Lantern didn't glow; Wonder Woman went from Paradise Island to development hell (executives catastrophically failed to support Joss Whedon's efforts to write and direct an adaptation); The Flash isn't running anywhere; and a Justice League film was disbanded.
So what is Warner Bros offering instead? Journey 2: The Mysterious Island filmmaker Brad Peyton is to write and direct an adaptation of superhuman bounty hunter Lobo, who was created as an indictment of antiheroes like Wolverine and Punisher but instead caught on as a cult favourite.
He has no household recognition, of course, but a recent rumor seems to give the concept a bit more clout by suggesting Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson - who worked with Peyton on Journey 2 - is up for the title role.
Surfacing on comics site Bleeding Cool as a piece of uncorroborated insider information, talk of The Rock's involvement is at this point unfounded. But Dwayne himself has sparked fan interest in DC film possibilities with a tease via his Twitter account.
When responding to a message that suggested him for the commando Gravedigger or for John Stewart (an African-American who becomes a Green Lantern), he simply replied: "Funny you say that..."
While the actor has built up recognition and status, he seems an unlikely choice and odd fit for Lobo and is too musclebound to play John Stewart. It's unclear if there is any truth to the tittle-tattle or whether it's Johnson trying to kick-start a fan campaign that is then taken on board by studio bosses.

Up until the groundbreaking earlier this year, the site of the first phase of downtown Newark’s redevelopment had devolved to resemble that classic picture of the hollowed-out post-industrial city: 91% of the land here was covered in surfaceparking lots. Over the previous half-century, buildings in the city’s historic core had been razed and replaced by parking spaces that were supposed to lure back shoppers and businesses that had decamped for the suburbs and even farther away. But, as everyone now knows, those shoppers and businesses never came back.
Developer Ron Beit’s plan to fill all this blank space and jump-start the downtown’s renewal looks, in the renderings, like a fairlystandard proposal. He’s envisioning low-rise mixed use buildings, with apartmentsand restaurants and retail, all of which is supposed to enliven the long-empty neighborhood at all hours of the day. But Beit is anchoring the whole thing around a group seldom associated with economic development (or disposable income, for that matter): This project is intended for teachers.
