Peter Jackson confirms The Hobbit will be filmed in 3D
LIKE it or not, 3D is here. You can now get 3D televisions - in a package with a Blu-ray players and special glasses - at a price that isn't utterly outrageous and more and more filmmakers are making use of the format (Of course, if you don't like it, a 2D alternative is always available).
Peter Jackson confirmed today he is embracing this latest technological trend for his two-part adaptation of The Hobbit.
He will use RED's latest EPIC cameras which have the advantage of being smaller and lighter than the cameras used previously. Captain America director Joe Johnston has been among those to find the existing hardware too cumbersome; this latest design should put paid to all that.
RED announced that Jackson would be using the soon-to-be-released EPIC digital camera, which is the successor to the RED ONE.
The Hobbit will be among the first productions in the world to use the EPIC and at least thirty cameras will be needed. The EPIC'S small size and light weight are said to make it ideal for 3D, where two cameras have to be mounted on each 3D rig.
Jackson said: "I have always liked the look of RED footage. I'm not a scientist or mathematician, but the image RED produces has a much more filmic feel than most of the other digital formats.
"I find the picture quality appealing and attractive, and with the Epic, Jim and his team have gone even further. It is a fantastic tool; the Epic not only has cutting ed...

Mark Wahlberg 'not starring in The Crow'
MARK WAHLBERG was recently rumoured to have been offered the lead role in a new big-screen version of The Crow.
The news - which met with a mixed response from fans - came at the same time as writer-director Stephen Norrington quit when an unnamed actor demanded a new script from another writer.
Norrington spoke positively about the possibility of Wahlberg being involved, which seemed to indicate he wasn't the actor who'd forced him off the project.
Wahlberg now confirms he was interested in The Crow but decided not to pursue it any further.
He told Cinematical: "We never committed to making the movie. They talked to me about it and there was a director attached who I was a fan of, and he's no longer doing it. We just thought about it - 'Is there something cool to be done there?' But we're not committed to making the movie."
The comic book character - a murdered rock musician who returns from the dead to exact revenge - was previously seen in a 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, who died in a gun accident on set. It was followed by three sequels and a TV series.

Trailer for supernatural horror film Blood Fare starring Gil Gerard
A TEASER trailer has been released for the supernatural horror film Blood Fare whose cast includes sci-fi icon Gil Gerard, star of the classic series Buck Rogers.
But Gerard isn't waking up in the glossy space-age future of the 25th century this time. The indie horror flick, from writer/director JA Steel and co-producer Christian K. Koch, is described as a Civil War ghost story with a modern twist, as you can see from the trailer below.
It centres on Corporal Henry Trout (S. Edward Meek; Wild Stallion), who in 1861 fought valiantly in a forgotten skirmish after the first battle of Bull Run. He comes face to face with his descendants as the battle for blood continues on a haunted battlefield 150 years later.
Tyler and her brother Chad (Adrian West), Henry's fifth generation grandchildren, "will challenge the very legend of Charon the Ferryman, as the lines between the living and the dead become blurred."
Gil Gerard plays Professor Meade, mentor to the protagonist Tyler. Also in the cast are Michelle Wolff (Chicago Hope, Veronica Mars, Dante's Cove), Kim Sonderholm, Scott Beringer (Ocean's Eleven), Brenden Whitney, Alison Trouse, Thomas J. Post, Antonio Lexerot and April Knight.
Special make-up effects supervisor is Chris Hanson (Hellboy, Underworld, Men in Black, Men in Black 2, The Green Mile, The X-Files, The Faculty, Spawn).
Blood Fare is JA Steel's fourth feature film.

Gay celebrity zombies take on world's first all-gay superhero team
THE entertainment world is in danger of turning into another Thriller video: there are zombies everywhere these days.
Not just on TV in The Walking Dead, based on Robert Kirkman's hit comic book, but in films such as Resident Evil and 28 Days Later; superhero comics such as the Green Lantern story Blackest Night; and novels such as Tomes of the Dead: Stronghold. Not to mention the spoofs such as Shaun of the Dead and Zombie Driftwood.
With all those dead people strolling around in slow, menacing fashion (Filmmaker George A Romero says he would have it no other way), it stands to reason that some of them must be gay and some must be celebrities.
Step forward the latest issue of the British comic Spandex.
Spandex is the the world's first all-gay superhero team and stars of their own award-nominated comic.
And in their new issue things take an unexpected turn, when the team face a whole horde of celebrity gay zombies. Artwork of the famously undead horrors is included below, along with a teaser trailer for the comic.
Spandex comic book creator Martin Eden said: "I was doodling one of the pages and I thought it would be fun to cram in as many famous gay people as possible - as zombies! ...

The 20th Century Fox film, based on true events, centres on a veteran train engineer (Denzel Washington) and a young conductor (Chris Pine) trying to prevent an unmanned runaway train - which is carrying hazardous chemicals - from causing disaster in an urban area.
The official synopsis describes it as "an adrenaline rush fuelled by director Tony Scott's signature mark of propulsive action rooted in the reality of ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances."
Check out the premiere video and new behind-the-scenes clips below.

The Green Hornet: new international trailer
WHEN news of The Green Hornet movie first surfaced more than three years ago, with comedy actor Seth Rogen co-writing and in the starring role, fan reaction was overwhelmingly negative.
The fear was that it would be a retrograde step for the superhero genre. And then there were rumours that the studio was also worried, although recent test screenings have had a positive response with reports saying Sony is already thinking about sequels.
What might elevate the movie is the stylish, unconventional touch of French filmmaker Michel Gondry in the director's chair and you can perhaps get some sense of that in the new international trailer Sony has sent over to us. Check it out below.
Rogen plays Britt Reid, playboy heir to a news empire whose father's death jolts him into responsibility and, ultimately, into becoming a crimefighter, helped by associate Kato (Asian pop star Jay Chou). Cameron Diaz plays love interest Lenore Case and Christoph Waltz the villain Benjamin Chudnofsky.
The Green Hornet is released in 3D on January 14, 2011.
Here's the new trailer, and below that is a reminder of the Comic-Con footage I brought you previously.
